The
American Tree Foundation through its web interface ‘My
American Tree’ presents community based LocalNets
to end-users. A LocalNet is a community-based portal
that focuses on immigrant history with in a community,
the cultural nuances with in that community and the subsequent
folklore that is pertinent to the individuals who make
up the community.
Collected
and organized through out the LocalNet, this content is then
delivered through ‘My
American Tree’ to anyone who is interested
in learning a little something about his or her community.
If they so desire they can query and learn about other
community based LocalNets and even communicate with
newly made friends through IRC (Internet Relay Chat).
Knowing
that a LocalNet represents each physical community, businesses
benefit from a localized web presence with in their specific
LocalNet. This web presence further benefits a business when
a consumer searches for a specific product or item by drilling
down on their search criteria by state, county, city, town
or village. LocalNets are queried according to a consumers
selected criteria. For those businesses that wish to participate,
a fully integrated suite of e-commerce tools is available
to them in order to conduct business by way of their LocalNet.
Also
as an added value feature the ‘My American Tree' component
gives individuals and businesses the ability to buy and sell
goods and services in an on-line auction format. This feature
is again a fully integrated e-commerce solution specifically
designed for on-line auctioneers.
Individuals
and organizations within a community voluntarily provide
and manage the content of their LocalNet as individuals,
but
collectively as a community. By creating
personalized LocalNet accounts, much like setting up a
web mail account, they are able to share their stories,
share interests and participate in forums .
“It’s
a fun concept with a lot of features designed to entertain
and inform people about Americans and their communities.”
Adds Eric Wilder, Vice President of Public Relations & Communications.
He goes on to say "there
is even a childrens component. Some
of the stories are being told to children by Tommy
Thom the Tree Whisper who lives in the Tree House.
But that’s another story."
The
'My American Tree' feature will be coming soon.
